MP3: Craft Spells – The Fog Rose High 7″ / Cures 7″

Craft Spells make watery music. It flows; it makes you feel like like you’re hearing it through a few feet of sea water.

But more literally, they make pop music that soothes, with bright melodies drawing a contrast with the chilled-out vocals that makes these songs really worth your time.

So far, they’ve only released two 7″ singles, with their debut album, Idle Labor, on the way later this summer. “The Fog Rose High”  is the first single from that LP, and the band is offering it for free! It’s their best work so far, and you can  grab that track and its b-side below:

MP3: The Fog Rose High

MP3: You Should Close the Door

If those two songs are to your liking, you’re in luck, because the band has also offered all three songs from their debut 7″, Cures, for the best price you can hope for: nothing! For convenience, I’m reposting them here:

MP3: Walking Water Wet

MP3: Triangle Rhymes

MP3: Time Lapse

The standout from that release is “Walking Water Wet,” which sums up the band’s sound and usual lyrical themes pretty well. You can check out streams of a few tracks from Idle Labor on their MySpace and keep up with what Craft Spells are listening to on their blog.

It’s a phrase that gets thrown into every blog post about an emerging act, but these guys really are a band to watch. I thought I was reaching my saturation point for “summery” music, but I really can’t wait for their debut record to drop.
