박혜진 Park Hye Jin made a splash a couple of years ago with her five-track IF U WANT IT, which unsurprisingly caught the attention of techno heads around the world. This included lauded London label Ninja Tune, who signed the Korean producer and will be releasing her new EP How can I on June 26.
The success of her earlier release saw her travelling around the world to play and DJ, and she has now even relocated from Seoul to Los Angeles. How can I was created during, and influenced by, this constant state of transit.
This can be heard in the lead single, “Like this”, a track that starts with luminous bells and placid synth underscoring her whisper-sung vocal. The pace soon picks up as she subtly slides in some high-hats and bass drums, and immediately it feels as if we’re moving through a world of neon lights and crowds – transported from one city to another, feeling the time fall through the hourglass.
