While the lockdown is keeping us apart physically, it has found us connecting through other means – and today it has borne another new fruit. Long-time labelmates and mutual admirers Joe Goddard (Hot Chip) and Hayden Thorpe (Wild Beasts) have teamed up for a track called “Unknown Song”.
Thorpe says: “The lockdown has really made it apparent how music allows us to feel a synchronicity with our fellow beings. In the absence of touch, music is that sensual meeting point.”
Goddard adds: “We are in the midst of a crisis but gaining that new appreciation of dancing together is a small positive that I hope to hold onto after all of this.”
With the Hot Chip member manning the beats, “Unknown Song” is a bright and popping house track that is ready to brighten your living room – or whatever space you can find to move your body. Thorpe’s voice is the icing on top, his sensuality on full display, but also a dexterity for weaving his voice around electric beats and propulsive production that we haven’t heard too much from him in the past.
