We recently brought you the debut single from Gone To Color a new duo featuring multi-instrumentalists and producers Matt Heim and Tyler Bradley Walker. They’re releasing their self-titled debut album in October, and have a whole hosts of guests, including Jessie Stein of The Luyas (who sings on “The 606”), Kurt Wagner of Lambchop, Angus Andrew of Liars and more.
Today they’ve shared “Voyeur Nation”, on which Merchandise’s singer Carson Cox takes up singing duty. It’s been a while since we heard Cox’s voice, but there’s no mistaking its ripe beauty, and he slides in nicely among Gone To Color’s shape-shifting sound world. “Voyeur Nation” begins in noir-ish fashion, Cox’s romantic voice intoning over slick and subtle electronic production, “your mother didn’t come home.” Gone To Color keep the song oozing forward with a chunky but malleable bassline and atmospheric chimes, as Cox ascends into his higher register for dramatic effect. When it comes to the chorus, pinwheeling tones play off Cox’s insouciant warnings, creating a deadly earworm; “time and time again / you find a lover… to replace another.” In combination, Cox and Gone To Color create a whole seedy scene full of neon lights that you get totally wrapped up in.

Gone To Color’s self-titled album comes out on October 15. Make sure to follow them on Bandcamp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
