It seems strange to say that Several Shades Of Why is J Mascis’ first studio solo release. The man has been an indie rock stalwart for two and a half decades, releasing over a dozen albums with several bands, most notably Dinosaur Jr.
Several Shades Of Why is a step away from the loud rock that we’re used to hearing from Mascis’ projects, to a more acoustic and low key sound. The punk edge and imagery is still intact though and it makes for an intriguing listen on the whole.
