Deer Tick’s first three albums were fine pieces of folk rock focused around the songwriting ability and unique vocals of frontman John McCauley but on their fourth album, Divine Providence, they’re moving in a new direction. Both guitarist Ian O’Neil and drummer Dennis Ryan gets the chance to take the lead spot and overall the band are expanding on their sound, taking it in new and often raucous directions.
The end product is a bit of a mixed back with the experimentation succeeding at times (“Make Believe”) and failing at others (“Let’s All Go To The Bar”), but there’s enough good stuff to warrant a listen, so go ahead and check out the full album below (it premiered on SPIN yesterday).
Divine Providence will be released on October 25 via Partisan Records.
