Friend of a Friend announces new album, shares new single “oasis”

Fiend of a Friend have announced details surrounding their forthcoming album, Desire!, which is due out April 25 via Earth Libraries. The duo of Claire Molek and Jason Savsani have long explored moments of cinematic radiance anchored by opulent synths and ascending harmonies. The new album was recorded in a Victorian mansion in rural Illinois which was, unbeknownst to the band, considered one of the most haunted places in America. This supernatural atmosphere quickly left its mark on Molek and Savsani, as strange noises and odd occurrences happened frequently during their time there.

We tried to make it feel like home,” Molek recalls. “We lit candles, baked bread, cooked elaborate meals—anything to fill the space with warmth.” Savsani adds, “It was as if we were pushing back against something intangible, trying to ground ourselves while leaning into the house’s energy.”

Their latest single, the propulsive “oasis”, is built around cascading synths and a motorik beat that houses brittle guitar tones and spiraling vocal melodies. It’s gorgeous and immersive and haunting, all at the same — a rush of ephemeral sonics that speak to the recesses of your subconscious.

We wrote this song while we were making our second album and spending a lot of time in the desert, going to a place called Oasis,” explains the band, “it was a spark we submitted to that went on to become a kind of foundation for the rest of the album. Desire as the body.”
