DOOM: New Madvillain nearly finished, Thom Yorke collaboration album next?

Renowned rapper and recluse DOOM (formerly MF DOOM) has this month given an interview to 3D World magazine which has left us with some interesting tidbits about his upcoming projects. Firstly the long-awaited follow up to Madvillainy is apparently nearly finished, but we’ve been hearing about that for such a long time now that it’s inadvisable to assume we’ll hear it soon.

Which is why the next point, the extremely exciting news that DOOM is working with Thom Yorke, should be taken with a grain of salt before we get carried away. It does sound promising though, DOOM says that he and Yorke have been “working on some duets, some duet songs and shit. Just like preliminary shit but we’ll probably end up doing a whole record together… he’s cool – he got a lot of ill ass ideas and shit, you know.” Most effusive.

It has long been known that Thom Yorke is a fan of DOOM, even once saying that he is his favourite currently working lyricist. Thom has also remixed a track for DOOM “Gazzillion Ear” from his last album, Born This Way (listen at the bottom).

It’s certainly something to get excited about, and perhaps more excitingly is that it could appear at any moment, just like the last Radiohead album or Yorke’s collaborations with Burial and Four Tet that were announced out of the blue yesterday. Even if we never get a whole record, the fact that they’re working together means we’ll probably hear something from this potential dream duo.
