Declan Welsh & the Decadent West face up to the fear and beauty of mortality in “Impermanency”

Indie-post-punk quartet, Declan Welsh & the Decadent West expose their metamorphosis from a “political thing” to a personal cypher with “Impermanency”, the lead single from a new EP of the same name coming in the near future. On the new track, they say:

“It’s about death, really, and the terrifying inevitability of it. But the other side of that to even get to live is such a gift, even if it is fleeting, and possibly even because it is fleeting. It’s about cycles.”

If that sounds too soft and distant an embarkation from the angst and ironic radicalism of their 2019 debut Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold, the track shows how easy it is to bridge a charged post-punk-indie-rock style into stadium anthems brimming with reflection. They seamlessly throw in a kitchen sink of influences under layered sounds and those familiar, thick and dirty guitars: just as intelligent, just as witty, still a mosh-pit instigator.

Declan Welsh & The Decadent West will release a new EP called Impermanency this year on the way to releasing a new full-length in 2023. You can find them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
