Death Valley Girls surge with compassion on “Hold My Hand”

Death Valley Girls are building up to the release of their new album Under The Spell of Joy in October, and following the ascendant space rock single “The Universe” they’re delivering a second taste with “Hold My Hand”. The band’s Bonnie Bloomgarden explains the impetus of the new track, saying:

“Relationships are really tricky and can be super messy and complicated! I used to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. I realized it’s cause I thought relationships were an agreement you made with another person. And that meant giving away my power to the other person and letting them navigate our way along our path. Then I realized things either happen to you or for you! Any relationship you have is an opportunity to make an agreement with yourself! It’s a chance to learn to be more compassionate and to grow stronger and more powerfully into the person you want to be and are meant to be! Hopefully, the other person will help along the way and grow with you! If not, peace and next, please.”

While “The Universe” encompassed the entirety of existence, “Hold My Hand” zooms into the relationship between two people, but is no less impactful. With churning organ playing as undercurrent to jubilant drums and zagging guitars, “Hold My Hand” is positively joyous, taking us right into the tumultuous waves of feeling that come with the spark of a new relationship. But, Death Valley Girls, are here to remind us that love doesn’t mean giving yourself up, and they reinforce that message with ear-candy gang vocals, crackling piles of guitars and melodic hooks aplenty.

Death Valley Girls’ new album Under The Spell of Joy is out via Suicide Squeeze on October 2. You can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Bandcamp.
