Belle and Sebastian to finish mastering new record by end of November

Scottish indie pop band Belle and Sebastian have finished the recording of their upcoming album and are hoping to finish the mastering by the end of November, according to singer Stuart Murdoch in a diary post on the band’s official website. The album, which will be the bands 8th studio album, is called God Help The Girl and will be the follow-up to 2006’s critically acclaimed The Life Pursuit. God Help The Girl will also feature guest vocals by Divine Comedy frontman Neil Hannon and Asy of Smoosh.

Murdoch also adds that there are 18 songs to be mastered and that “It’s a good feeling to think about making records. Sleeves and schedules, running orders and what not. It’s been so long since I did it that, I suspect the landscape has changed.”. Murdoch also seems to be feeling his age (he’s 40) as he muses on how music is seen by the youth of today: “Do you get the same thrill when you look forward to a record coming out? I suppose I must ask the youngsters among you, because age dulls most thrills. But youngsters, where are your thrills coming from? Do you desire the sensation that is the Long Playing Record. Does pop music teach you and hold you and thrill you the way it used to? The way it did to us?”

Belle and Sebastian are also set to release a compilation of their BBC sessions on the 17th of November simply entitled The BBC Sessions.
