Still on the rise, Sydney-based alt-pop artist merci, mercy has already won over a solid fan base with her instantly catchy brand of introspective alt-pop. She’s unafraid to confront stark realities via music that will make you want to dance all the same.
Her latest is no exception. “Black Cloud” finds her tangled in a maze of mental health issues, fearing they will tear the things she values most asunder. She explains, “‘Black Cloud’ is about my mental health taking a toll on my relationship. I’m unable to experience the simple joys of life with my partner because I’m consumed by a black cloud. I am the type of person that needs to know it will work out or else I won’t bother to try.”
She continues, “This song shows that I am working on myself to make the relationship successful, despite being wrapped in a black cloud. I’m willing to do the work because of how much I love this person; life would be a tragedy if I didn’t at least try.”
“Black Cloud” is the latest look at her approaching sophomore EP, due later this year. Check it out below.
