Arcade Fire look to uplift with the sparkling “Unconditional I (Lookout Kid)”

Arcade Fire‘s new album WE is out next Friday, May 6, and following on from the double-header lead single they’ve today shared a new song from it called “Unconditional I (Lookout Kid)”.

The song finds Win Butler preaching positivity and self-acceptance over a bouncing acoustic-led jaunt that’s immediately infectious. “Lookout Kid” just continues to grow in joy and boisterousness with more voices and instrumentation as Win continues to deliver the lessons; “let me say it again / no one’s perfect”. This sheer positivity is an ideal shade for Arcade Fire’s grandiose leanings, and, as they continue to teeter and tower towards the song’s resounding conclusion, you can’t help but feel at least a little bit uplifted. In listening to this song, you might feel, deep in your soul, that everyone hurts and everyone heals. “It ain’t hard to rock’n’roll” indeed.

Arcade Fire’s new album WE will arrive on May 6 through Columbia (pre-order/save). You can find the band on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.
