Yves Jarvis — the moniker of Canadian musician Jean-Sébastien Yves Audet — will release his latest album, All Cylinders, on Feb 28 via In Real Life. He played every instrument on this new collection, throwing himself fully into its abstract visions. Blending elements of folk, R&B, country, blues, and Americana, he paints a portrait of blurred musical traditions and inclusive adaptation.
When talking about the origin of the record, he says, “I basically only listened to Frank Sinatra for a year. I wanted Sinatra’s clarity—the way the songs exist without him, as real things. And he’s the interpreter.“
On the title track, Jarvis approaches the molded contours of yacht rock through the lens of 70s soul, horns gently encircling honeyed harmonies, shivering organ lines, and a shuffling percussive bounce. It’s a striking reorientation, one that casts a glance towards the past while embracing the future of those same sounds.
“An expression of faith as I barrel towards fate. RIYL: Speeding through a rainstorm without windshield wipers, Dionne Warwick, Judee Sill, Norah Jones, Marvin Gaye,” he says of the title track.
