The Dutch port city of Rotterdam has been a hotbed for more refractory guitar sounds for a good decade now, with artists such as Lewsberg, Rats on Rafts, and The Sweet Release Of Death bringing singular noise to the fringes. You can now add Tramhaus to that list, a spry, heavy-hitting noise-punk unit who already built quite a rowdy live reputation, and this despite the corona-hampered past two years.
The band’s debut single “I Don’t Sweat” contrasts a pouncing, barbed-wire assault with the obtuse, lukewarm vocal delivery of frontman Lukas Jansen. “‘I Don’t Sweat’ is about being laconic on deadlines and responsibilities,” Jansen comments. “Partly because it’s often seen as cool. This song is told by someone who pretends it doesn’t matter but it is also critical of his behavior and how the environment encourages him to do so.”
“I Don’t Sweat” comes with the announcement of the 7″, I Don’t Sweat/Karen, which will be released by Dutch indie label Subroutine Records. You can preorder it here. Tramhaus will hit the road with Pip Blom for shows at Rotown, VERA, and Paradiso Noord in February and March. The band recorded an intense live session recorded at independent venue Roodkapje last year.
