Metronomy member Anna Prior goes solo with the irresistible pop-house kiss-off “Thank You For Nothing”

Heretofore, Anna Prior was best known for her precision work behind the kit for Metronomy, but from today that all changes. Already a DJ of some renown, Prior proves that she has both the production skill and business nous to set off on her own solo work – and set up her own label, Beat Palace, in the process. The first release from Prior and Beat Palace is “Thank You For Nothing”, which she introduces by saying:

“The initial demo of this song was called “Housey_4” – as I had absolutely 100% intended to write some house music…! But during lockdown, Joe Mount from Metronomy had set me a task to create a cover of a Buena Vista Social Club song for an episode of Metronomy TV. I was addicted to reggaeton beats at the time and just wanted to make the most reggaeton drum loops I could. The drum intro to “Thank You For Nothing” is one of those reggaeton experiments”

The resulting combination of her house pedigree and reggaeton infatuation is absolutely irresistible, a slice of sunshine that’s been teleported straight from some idyllic dancefloor on a far-flung island where the weights of the world are non-existent. Having said that, there is some strain in the lyrics, as Prior picks over a break-up, but she delivers them with such a care free attitude that you can tell this is the last scrap of attention she’s going to give to this ex. Instead, she’s riding these beats to a blissful future where she’ll probably meet a million more prospective partners, each as enthralled by her musical prowess as the next.
