A couple of months ago London-based Trinidadian singer-songwriter BERWYN made his stunning introduction with the debut single “GLORY”, and our wait for a second song has finally ended today with “TRAP PHONE”.
Like “GLORY” before it, “TRAP PHONE” sounds like a transmission straight from the Romford streets where he was raised, but this time the outlook is more heartwarming. It’s still a very personal song about his life and upbringing, but “TRAP PHONE” finds BERWYN crooning over understated piano chords about people he’s known and loved. Here he’s singing to an old acquaintance, catching them up on his modest but happy life, drawing the old emotion between them up from a deep well of compassion. The atmospheric arrangement makes this shifting between past and present more lucid, and through BERWYN’s careful poetry, we get to know this tender and big-hearted young man.
You can hear “TRAP PHONE” on streaming platforms, or watch the video by Brock-Neal Roberts below.
BERWYN is set to release a debut mixtape at some point in the not too distant future, so keep up to date with him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
