That title should be enough to get any rock fan excited. It’s been nearly a decade since Neil Young and Crazy Horse last worked together (on 2003’s Greendale), but Young and the Los Angeles band have always seemed to have had a special connection, which led them to release classic albums like Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, Zuma, and Rust Never Sleeps, so it’s not too much to hope that that magic has been rekindled in the studio this year. Hard core fans will also be quick to point out that Greendale did not feature the full Crazy Horse lineup (guitarist “Poncho” Sampedro was not involved), so this will be the first true Neil Young and Crazy Horse album released since 1996’s Broken Arrow.
Young announced the news to the Sundance Film Festival this past weekend, while promoting the movie Journeys. Posts on Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina’s Facebook, and subsequent investigation by Rolling Stone has confirmed that the album is indeed well underway and “looking good” according to representative of Young.
Neil Young fansite Thrasher’s Wheat reports that Young has said that one album with Crazy Horse is already recorded, although that might be the 2000 shelved album Toast, which Young has apparently been contemplating releasing in the past few years. As for the new album, the rumoured release date is Spring, which is close and certainly exciting.
