Grandaddy fans rejoice. It’s been almost five years since the California-based band fell by the wayside, and while leading man Jason Lytle has been doing the solo thing in the meantime, it’s still a relief to report that Lytle, along with former Grandaddy drummer Aaron Burtch, Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray (both of Earlimart fame) have joined forces to create a new musical crew, otherwise known as Admiral Radley (or, more intimately, Ad Rad).
Ad Rad’s first record, I Heart California, was released last month, and with it came a pleasingly absurd music video for the album’s title track. It’s essentially a montage of clips that pay homage to the wonders of California, highlights including: outrageous breast implants, nice looking forests and beaches, security camera footage of earthquakes, and a weight-lifting Arnold Schwarzenegger who shows up whenever the chorus kicks in.
Even better? The whole video is done in karaoke style with lyrics trolling along the bottom of the frame so that you and your pals can sing along to the self-described “loose and enjoyable” sounds of Admiral Radley’s piano fuzz-pop while your eyes feast on all that California has to offer. I’m kinda starting to heart California, too.
