Earlier this year Tim Hecker released Ravedeath, 1972 (which we recommended), which included a song called “The Piano Drop” and a front cover that depicts some people attempting to drop a piano off of a tall building. Now, to follow up that release Hecker is putting out Dropped Pianos, a collection of “Sketches” that are offshoos from the album.
The press release tells us that Dropped Pianos “is not a new Tim Hecker album, but rather a peek behind the curtains into the working process. That these pieces stand on their own as compelling soundworks is a testament to the fact that Tim Hecker is at the absolute top of his game at the moment, and has been for years.”
The collection comes out through Kranky on October 11th. You can see the cover art above (a darkened version of the Ravedeath, 1972 cover) and the tracklist below. Beneath you can also stream “Sketch 5.”
