talker battles sand and uncertainty on “Gold Rush”

“Gold Rush” is the first release from LA artist talker (Celeste Tauchar) since her debut album I’m Telling You The Truth in 2024. The song has a pulsating, primal sound and features some of the artist’s most blistering, beautiful vocals to date. In fact, her singing on this track is reminiscent of two legendary vocalists: Annie Lennox and Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell.

The video for the song was shot in California’s desolate Mojave Desert, which would explain lyrics like “I’m spooning sand in my mouth, tryna swallow it down.” But those lines are preceded by the cryptic revelation that “she’s not from here / I’m starting to think maybe neither am I.” It’s difficult to tell whether talker is singing about a career or relationship desert – or both.

Celeste says, “‘Gold Rush’ was the first song I wrote for this record where I really felt like I had a clear vision of where I was taking things. Chasing after something I can’t put my finger on, always feeling like what I want is just out of reach, but realizing that I have to look myself in the mirror to see that nothing will ever be good enough until I commit to something. I can always change my mind.

“Sonically, I really wanted it to feel like exactly that
. Out in the desert, hallucinating and just grasping at things that I can’t hold onto. The jumping-off point for a lot of the journey on this next record.”

This song abounds with sun-bleached mystery that’s the perfect teaser for talker’s next full-length album.
