Softee brings captivating insight to “Grief”, from her new album

Softee (aka Nina Grollman) has a superb new album out today titled Natural that’s chockful of great songs like “Grief”, which offers hard-earned wisdom in addition to its cascading harmonies and infectious tribal beat.

The Brooklyn-based artist has already achieved more than most of us will in three lifetimes. Grollman is a former thespian who has appeared on Broadway opposite Denzel Washington. Thanks to her German mother, she grew up bilingual – which comes in handy when you record in Berlin. The 10 tracks on Natural were all recorded there, with help from co-producer Jeremy Chinn.

“Grief” features inventive percussion and horns, but its insightful lyrics are what lure you in: “grief ain’t a straight line / gotta leave a little wiggle room.”

Softee’s song “Crush” was featured on last year’s reboot of the TV series Queer As Folk. Whether you first encounter her music on Spotify or Showtime, Softee is one amazing wunderkind.
