Skylet Gunner channels Brando on “Bang Bang Baby”

LA artist Skylet Gunnerโ€™s new single โ€œBang Bang Babyโ€ proves that sheโ€™s both a singular talent and a branding genius. The accompanying video is so astounding that I could see it getting an Oscar nomination for best short film. Even though the song celebrates the American Outlaw spirit, it was written in Berlin.

Unlike most of todayโ€™s bedroom popsters, Skylet makes music inspired by 50s/60s icons like Marlon Brando and Nancy Sinatra (with just a dash of Bowie-in-Berlin on some songs). On โ€œBang Bang Babyโ€, she enlists the help of some legendary names: producer Erik Alcock (Pink, Eminem), mixing engineer Mills Logan (Taylor Swift, Shania Twain) and video director Regina Pigsley.

Says Skylet: โ€œFor a long time, I’ve had this idea to do something like a scene from โ€˜The Wild Oneโ€™ with Marlon Brando on his motorcycle with a fake backdrop. Teaming up with my friend Regina Pigsley and Sargasso Media was definitely the move. We collaborate so well and she’s killer.โ€

Gunner will release two more singles this spring in advance of her next album. She truly belongs on a wanted poster because after viewing this video, youโ€™ll want to see her in a full-length movie.
