Skofee transports us to Joyland on her new EP

If LA pop artist Skofee keeps moving west, she’ll soon be in Hawaii. She was born in Kansas, attended high school in Colorado, then college in Los Angeles. Skofee’s new EP Joyland will astound you, no matter what time zone you live in.

Joyland covers a lot of bases musically, from the brilliantly crafted “I’m Sorry I Killed Your Plant” to the hook-laden dance track “Wind Up Hero”. The latter is one of those sneaky-great songs that worms its way into the endorphin-boosting part of your brain. If you start your day with “Wind Up Hero”, the woes of the world will simply melt away.

It’s rare to find an artist who can shift stylistic gears so easily. Skofee can dazzle you with the pop elegance of a Miya Folick on tracks like “Sorry I Killed Your Plant”. You’ll also hear traces of Taylor Swift, Lorde and Sade in her music – but she weaves these influences into something extraordinarily fresh.

Skofee’s co-writer and co-producer Sam Vendig deserves kudos for his behind-the-scenes contributions that make Joyland an EP that truly lives up to its name. His talents are on full display on the haunting, folk-flavored title track.

Joyland may be a sophomore EP, but Skofee’s talents are already at the musical PhD level.
