Sharpie Smile attempt to correct sentimental misconceptions on “Love or Worship”

Sharpie Smile — the duo of Dylan Hadley and Cole Berliner — previously released music as Kamikaze Palm Tree but changed their name last year, moving into a new phase of their partnership. They recently signed to Drag City and released their debut single, “Love or Worship”, on Valentine’s Day.

A far cry from the often-arrthymic eccentricities of their previous band, this new single is an ethereal pop echo, with synths circling in continuous loops and crisp guitar tones surrounding Hadley and Berlinger. Affection is fertile ground for their heartstring-plucking impulses as they search for answers concerning love’s enduring connections. They pick apart misconceptions regarding the consequences of mutual adoration, reassessing the architecture of devotion and fidelity.

The accompanying video was directed by Isabela Behraven and features the duo hanging out in a mosaic’d tower and cavorting in luxurious aquatic and infernal environments.
