After Led Zeppelin’s reunion concert at the O2 Arena in London on the 10th of December last year, with Jason Bonham stepping in for his late father John Bonham on drums, there has been a constant stream of rumors in the music press about a reunion. Plant recently released a statement on his website that after his current tour with country-bluegrass singer Alison Krauss he “has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years” and that “contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin”. He also referred to the never-ending rumors as “both frustrating and ridiculous” and wished the other Zeppelin members “nothing but success with any future projects”.
The latest rumor though is that, according to Dee Snider, singer of 80s band Twisted Sister, the members of Zeppelin are considering touring with Myles Kennedy, currently singer of post-grunge band Alter Bridge, in Plant’s place. Snider also says that the members of Zeppelin are hoping that Plant will decide to participate despite his earlier statement. If a tour with Kennedy would go through fans around the world would most likely see this as a betrayal and an attempt to make quick money by destroying the band’s legacy, at least if they would bill it as “Led Zeppelin”.
Robert Plant released the folk rock/country album Raising Sand together with Alison Krauss in October 2007 and the album debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts and was met with generally high critical praise. Between the 5th of May and the 5th October of 2008 the two have toured together in the U.K. Europe and the U.S. in support of the album.
