LA/NY artist ROREY is an extraordinarily courageous soul. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2021, and her new album Dysphoria was written during a mixed manic episode.
One of the highlights of the new collection is “Nobody’s Fault But My Own”. ROREY has drawn comparisons to Gracie Abrams, but to my ears she’s a more accessible version of Ethel Cain because of her lucid insights into an often troubling interior world.
“Each one of my songs has an element of introspection – I’m always asking myself a question,” she says. “My music is about relationships with ourselves and others. It’s about self-deviance, self-discovery, and being radically honest, even when it hurts.”
