Okay, you’d better write this down: the Toronto artist Liam Colbert used to be known as Patiohawk and now uses the handle Rise Carmine. Got it? Rise’s new single “Come In Closer” is a gently trippy song that showcases the artist’s soothing tenor voice. It’s a fabulous day-starter, and the accompanying video feels like a throwback to the Fillmore West light shows from the 60s.
Carmine has already worked with industry heavyweights like Dave Schiffman (Weezer), and the new single has the immersive charm to take his career even higher.
Rise says: “‘Come In Closer’ is about all the ways that we love each other that exist in between or outside of the spoken word. When words fail us or betray the way we are actually feeling, we let our bodies do the talking. It was written for my girlfriend Maggie!”
This man-of-many-names is newly signed to Paper Bag Records, and will release his next EP in November. “Come In Closer” has the glow of vintage Radiohead, so it’s a great addition to your summer playlist.
