Update: Radiohead’s PR firm just Tweeted that “RADIOHEAD IS NOT PLAYING WALL STREET TODAY nor were they ever confirmed to do so.” So, there you go. Bummer if you already called in sick to work. You can still go protest, I guess.
When we found out that Radiohead would be sticking around in New York until Monday to play Fallon we wondered what they might get up to in the meantime. I speculated that they might make a special appearance at Portishead’s ATP going on in New Jersey this weekend, but it turns out they’re doing something that fits much more with their MO. (The Portishead thing could still happen, let’s dream.)
There is a demonstration in Zucotti Park in Lower Manhattan at the moment called Occupy Wall Street where several protesters are camped out to show their displeasure at the current financial state and inequality of wealth. There have been rumblings of a special musical guest heading down to entertain the protesters and it has now been confirmed that Radiohead are the band in question. This falls in line with Thom having reportedly made comment about the film Inside Job while playing at Roseland Ballroom the night before last.
The performance is scheduled for just over an hour from now (4PM EST) so if you’re in the area there is still time to get down there. Who knows how many people may make it down there. An Occupy Wall Street spokesman admitted that they do not have a permit for the event, but that the police are “aware.”
