Prism Shores regret their overconfidence on “Overplayed My Hand”

Prism Shores are at the top of their jangling pop game on “Overplayed My Hand”, the latest single from their forthcoming album, Out From Underneath. Due out January 17 via Meritorio Records, the record marries a punchy c86-indebted iridescence with the rumblings of early English shoegaze. Just look towards labels like Sarah, Creation, and Flying Nun for touchstones concerning their shimmering pop prowess and churning rock densities.

But back to “Overplayed My Hand” — the track is a joyous celebration of pop music’s innate ability to wrangle featherlight rhythms alongside denser melodic sentiment. The guitars sparkle like stars on a cloudless night. Each moment a reflection of the band’s adoration for airy melodies and distortion-soaked arrangements. Imagine a cross between The Pastels and House of Love and you’re getting close to the aesthetic that Prism Shores expand and adapt. It’s a marvel of glistening pop theatrics and rougher hand-wrought guitar musculature.
