Prima Queen recognize their own self-worth on “The Prize”

Transatlantic indie pop purveyors Prima Queen are gearing up for the release of their debut album, The Prize, on April 25 via Submarine Cat Records. Hot off their time supporting Everything Everything on their December UK run of dates, the band will be looking to mount their largest headlining tour yet. See those dates below.

Built around the twinned creativities of Louise Macphail and Kristin McFadden, the band specializes in highlighting emotional and physical connections — those between friends (and lovers) and those between an artist and their fans. Produced by Steph Marziano, The Prize is an affirmation of their continual rhythmic evolution, of the intricate camaraderie that exists between Macphail and McFadden and the psychic musical link they seem to share.

On new single (and title track), “The Prize”, they are able to define and recognize their own self-worth through vivid indie pop ephemerality. The guitars shimmer and sparkle in the low light of a soft summer evening. Their voices tangle and release and then wrap themselves around each other again in ascending spirals. It possesses just the right amount of jangle to lodge itself firmly in our brains while also speaking poignantly to everyone who’s ever doubted their own abilities.

The band says: “Writing ‘The Prize’ felt kind of magical – we thought we had finished the album but this song suddenly came to us while we were writing in the studio with our producer Steph (Marziano) and we knew it had to be the album title-track. It felt like it tied all the other songs together in a really special way.  It’s a song to remind you that YOU’RE THE PRIZE which is easy to forget sometimes!
