Phillip Jon Taylor seizes the calm of now on “Lucky 22”, announces EP

Real ones recognise Phillip Jon Taylor as one of the founders of scuzzy power pop daredevils PAWS; having survived the bleeding-edge life of beer-soaked crowds, Boregasms and bloody fingers have put the necessary miles on a road-worn soul who’s now skating towards new horizons. Taylor has released the video for his new solo track “Lucky 22”, a granular alt-pop gem that triggers fond memories of Sparklehorse and Pedro The Lion at their most wistful.

No longer swayed by the city impulses of Glasgow, Taylor has found respite and clarity in his beloved Scottish Highlands; he set up a studio in the crofters cottage where he recorded his upcoming EP Supportive Partner Please Stand Here – abbreviated as SPPSH – which will be released on May 6th on his Wish Fullfillment Press-imprint. “Lucky 22” is a song suspended between beginnings and endings: the bliss in ignoring the impulse to mold existence’s inherent chaos into tangible meaning,  to just let the best things unfold naturally.

“I’m really not sure why, but 22 has been my lucky number since I can remember,” Taylor contemplates, about “Lucky 22”. “If I had to guess, it’s because it’s the date of my late Nana’s birthday. I also used to think the number looked like two swans.”
