Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, the LA-based hip-hop – eh, screw it, you’re on the internet, you read this site, you know who Odd Future are. Anyway, OFWGKTA up until now have released all of their recorded material for free using their website, but as the hype and attention around them has grown it has become more and more likely that the collective will start to release their material in a traditional manner. Odd Future leader Tyler, The Creator has already agreed to release his next album, Goblin, on XL next month, but now the band have found a way to maintain control over their own releases, and do it through a reputable label.
Partnering with Sony, the group have created their own label, inventively titled Odd Future Records. They seem to be following in the footsteps of Lily Allen who also has her own label under the Sony banner, In The Name Of. Odd Future Records will mostly be making use of Sony’s RED distribution arm to get their music out there.
Odd Future’s publicist, Chris Clancy, talking to Rap Radar says “they will have 100% creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no 3rd party participation in outside business…RED and Sony know that it’s in everyone’s best interest to maintain the group’s authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There’s no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works.. It’s about to be fun.. and different…”
No news yet on what will be the first release on Odd Future records, whether the group will put out an album together or whether we’ll be receiving a stream of solo output. Finally we can now be sure when we are receiving material from an Odd Future member who isn’t Tyler, The Creator or Hodgy Beats, because it will come with the Odd Future Records label on it.
