Nation of Language battle the noise of intrusive thoughts on “In Your Head”

While we anxiously await the release of Dance Called Memory, the latest collection from synth-pop alchemists Nation of Language, the band has kindly offered us yet another peek behind the curtains. “In Your Head” is the fourth single from the Brooklyn collective and follow on the heels of “I’m Not Ready for the Change”, “Inept Apollo”, and “Under the Water”. Further emphasizing the malleability of their synthetic pop impulses, this track initially appears to be a slow saunter through the woozy landscapes of ‘80s pop before allowing a bristling dynamic energy to carry it along to its conclusion.

The band is searching for hope and purpose, even as those things can seem so far away. The explicit vulnerability here is almost voyeuristic, too close and too intimate for us to be objective. We’re caught in their struggles, in the emotional upheaval generated from a host of unwanted thoughts. Maybe it’s best we’re here with them. Nobody should have to go through these things alone.
