If you feel like a prisoner in Bizarro World these days, here’s the perfect anthem for the 2020s: Miss Machina’s new single “Stranger Than Fiction”.
“We started the session just talking about how strange life is now,” says the LA artist. “With AI and constant connectivity, life feels at little Orwellian, and it’s even stranger that it feels normal that way. The song is really about feeling like a stranger in life, like nothing makes sense and you’re not sure why you’re here.”
Albert Camus wrote several books on this topic back in the 1940s, but it feels more cathartic somehow to put it all in a song – in this case, a beautifully crafted song with an impossible-to-forget chorus.
Miss Machina was known as Ashleigh Smith back in her college days, but her stage name seems tailor-made for this perplexing decade that still has another seven years of wonders and horrors in store.
