Lyrah dares to “Dream You Better”

Lyrah’s latest single “Dream You Better” is a dream-pop gem crafted by a serenely confident artist who was once a tech executive. Since I haven’t heard any music from Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, I’m gonna assume that she’s the best songwriter to ever grace Silicon Valley.

Lyrah (whose real name is Kathleen Warner) was a product designer for Facebook/Meta for five years before making the leap to music. She designed the “Record Deal Simulator”, which determines how many streams an artist would need just to earn one dollar. (Note to indie artists: this can be a depressing exercise.)

“My whole life I wondered what I could make if I actually gave music my complete attention – and this is it,” says Lyrah (who pronounces her stage name “lee-rah”, like the former Italian currency). “With everything that I make, I want it to feel like a soundtrack for someone’s life moments. And with this EP, I chose songs that live in their own relatable, cinematic world.”

Lyrah’s brand-new EP has the intriguing title Drain My Bank Account (perhaps a nod to Elon Musk’s first year at Twitter). The entire collection feels like the best dream you ever had: sun-dappled and radiant.
