Lone unleashes a windswept breakbeat banger in “Mouth of God”

Dan Cutler aka Lone recently announced Always Inside Your Head, his first album in five years. We’ve already heard the shoegaze-influenced “Hidden By Horizons”, and this week we received a second taster in “Mouth of God”.

Lone has said he wanted to present a varied mix of approaches, and “Mouth of God” certainly flips the script from “Hidden By Horizons”, presenting a high-energy mix of breakbeats and rapid-fire synth blasts. The beauty of the song comes through the spacious, atmospheric synths that sweep across the background, providing a nice contrast to the hyper-active foregrounded sounds. It’s especially effective when Lone cuts out the beats, and all of a sudden it feels like we’re running in thin air, being pulled up towards the edge of the atmosphere – or perhaps the titular “Mouth of God” – only to be slammed back down and immediately running again at breakneck speed. Completely re-energised, a new layer of acid techno melodicism now dominates the production, oozing irresistibly onwards until we achieve lift off once more.

Listen to “Mouth of God” below or on streaming platforms.

Lone’s new album Always Inside Your Head comes out on October 22 through Greco-Roman (pre-order/save). You can find him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
