Kim Gordon unleashes trap noise shredder “BYE BYE”, announces new album

Newsflash: Kim Gordon is still one of the coolest human beings on earth. This is once again evident with “BYE BYE”, a scorching projectile of noise rock and trap smashed together with blistering white-knuckled intensity. It’s the first taste of the Sonic Youth-alumnus’ unruly new album The Collective, which arrives on March 8, 2024 via Matador Records. You can preorder it here.

Like its predecessor, 2019’s No Home Record, Gordon once again collaborates with Justin Raisin (Lil Yachty, Charli XCX, Yves Tumor) to construct wonderfully abrasive pop that goes deep into the red numbers. “BYE BYE” is driven to a critical mass by Gordon’s signature poised, subtly disquieting lyrical hooks, which definitely has us properly hyped for the rest of the record.

The grainy, cinematic video for “BYE BYE” stars Gordon’s daughter Coco, and also features Meg Duffy (Hand Habits) as a convenience store clerk. It’s directed by filmmaker and photographer Clara Balzary (who also isn’t a stranger to growing up under the wings of rock music royalty).

Kim Gordon has announced a series of US live dates to support the album, which you can find below. Follow her on Instagram and Twitter for more updates.
