Kedr Livanskiy will release her fourth album, Mrytus Myth, on March 7 via 2MR. It finds her building her own mythos, her own folktales surrounded by experimental pop atmospheres and derived from personal experience and memory. She balances between the intimate and the universal, leading us on a journey toward the center of her consciousness. Darkness, light, joy, and pain all coexist in her amorphous world, conflicting perspectives vying for control of their host’s body for as long as they can. Working once again with collaborator Flaty, the new record places Livanskiy on a hero’s journey, one that allows her to reflect on past trauma while maintaining hope for the future.
“The last couple of years have been incredibly difficult for many people on earth,” Livanskiy explains. “This album is a reflection on painful topics through the prism of the mythical, dreamlike and otherworldly.”
As the emotional core of the record, new single “Anna” is a haunting reminder of what can be lost and what can be gained when physical and emotional connections are encouraged. It’s is a ghostly rumination on sorrow and longing shrouded in a fog of nostalgia but which ultimately proves the necessity of affection. Her voice effortlessly glides through these gauzy pop soundscapes, a beacon of light in a dim and weary world. We’re given a moment to consider the ways in which we effect those around us, the loss we can sustain, and the joy of finding someone who understands the way we are pieced together.
