Introducing: Trogons

In a musical hub like London it’s not too bad when bands break up; the members always seem to find another set of forward thinking and talented musicians to make music with under a new banner. That’s exactly what happened for Trogons, a foursome who now make goth-tinged atmospheric garage-rock (yes, that’s a lot of genres but I couldn’t pin them down with just one). Propelled by the sultry and powerful vocals of Gemma Fleet, the band’s music sucks you in with compelling bass and tricky keyboards all ostensibly in a garage-rock style, but with intriguingly spooky overtones.

The name Trogons, despite sounding scary, is actually taken from a type of exotic bird. This surprise also occurs in their music; initially it seems quite dark, but there is a lot of beauty embedded within the grooves and a band that do not take themselves too seriously. The pantomime-esque evil laughs that punctuate the verses of lead single “Contina” reveal a band who are just as much about having fun as they are about making great music.

If that all sounds like your cup of tea then check out the video for “Contina” below as well as a few other things.

“Contina” is set for release through X-Ray Recordings on April 25th. Also check out the Trogons sampler from their Tumblr:
