illuminati hotties released one of our favorite records of 2021 with Let Me Do One More, with BPM writer Tim Sentz stating that it “shows resilience and passion from one of indie music’s most intriguing risk takers”.
Perfectly crafted by band architect Sarah Tudzin, that album found her exploring a wider musical perspective, one that involved a nosier approach than earlier albums might have suggested — all the while employing a distinctive musical voice to carve out the finer details of heartache and joy.
In the lead-up to the official tour for Let Me Do One More — which starts on Feb 8 — she has released a new standalone single called “sandwich sharer”, and it starts off fairly dreamy before descending into some chunky guitar riffs. The chorus is bright and possesses that natural sing-along quality with which so much of their work is imbued. She’s able to turn oddly specific lyrical details into universal revelations, which is part of what makes her music so absolutely compelling.
Tudzin explains the genesis of the song: “‘sandwich sharer’ was very much written at the precipice of unknowns – I was seeking a teammate at a time where I felt swayed by nostalgia for youth as opposed to the reality of the momentum of life. And it feels so good to be close to someone who knows you so well it’s like you finish each others’… sandwiches.”
