IDK is an artist who refuses to be pinned down. The Maryland rapper has been bucking expectations ever since 2017’s brilliant IWASVERYBAD. He may have divided fans and critics with what’s come since, but that’s part of the point: his is a vision that doesn’t compromise.
His latest turn, however, seems to be one that’s destined to please. He’s linked up with none other than Kaytranada for a collaborative EP (or album, as its artwork refers to it), Simple. We don’t have long to wait, either, with the project due to arrive next Friday, May 6.
The new project features IDK and Kaytranada’s recent single “Taco” as well as today’s new offering “Dog Food”, which finds the duo linking up with old comrade Denzel Curry. The sweltering single interpolates Lil Wayne’s old fave “Tha Block Is Hot” in the chorus, while Kay lays on a classy beat around which the two rappers share defiant raps about avoiding the pigs while shifting weight. Their casual flows interweave perfectly, ensuring there’s no sweat even as they duck and dive from cops coming round the corner.
