Iceage rouse the outcasts with “All The Junk On The Outskirts”

Iceage have shared a new track to celebrate their heading on tour next month and the announcement of a new string of North American dates where they’ll co-headline with Earth. The new song is called “All The Junk On The Outskirts” and initially emerged during the sessions for 2018’s Beyondless, though the band couldn’t figure out how to complete it until they revisited it in 2021. Singer Elias Bender Rønnenfelt says:

“I consider this one of the better cuts off the Beyondless sessions, but it ended up being a misfit that wouldn’t quite fit in with the other songs as we put together the tracklisting. Like a piece belonging to a different puzzle. Much like it wasn’t welcome with the others on Beyondless, it’s an anthem for those on the outside looking in.

Although written for dreamier Beyondless, “All The Junk On The Outskirts” features Iceage’s more classic-sounding streamlined rock formation, as heard on last year’s Seek Shelter. The song moves fluidly on the slick rhythm pattern, but has plenty of bristles in the wiry guitar scrawl around its edges. Through this frame we can imagine Rønnenfelt’s narrator roaming the streets, looking in at society and wrinkling his nose with displeasure. It may not be Iceage’s most rollicking release, but it certainly has their trademark punk snarl and insight.
