Following a three year hiatus, Foxes faced a simple truth: things hadn’t worked out how she’d hoped. Her new single, “Hollywood” deals with this in the most explicit way her songwriting has yet.
Explaining, she says, “I wrote this song after an extended stay in West Hollywood when i was feeling completely overwhelmed and really struggling as a young artist trying to make sense of it all.“
Considering 2020 is the global year of “could have beens” and feeling lost, it made perfect sense to revisit it now. Still boasting that big Foxes sound, the track is nonetheless undeniably more somber than her usual singles, featuring an undeniable smattering of Vanessa Carlton, much to its benefit.
Continuing, Foxes shares, “Anyone who has spent some time in Los Angeles will understand the long shadow that amazing city can cast. When you step away from the glimmering lights and the star studded parties it can be a hard place, echoing with feelings of loneliness, isolation and rejection.“
Certainly a sentiment we can all understand living in quarantine. Check out “Hollywood” below and stay tuned for more from Foxes soon.
