The biggest problem with Spotify is that it contains thousands of good songs that often divert us from the masterpieces. One such masterpiece is the new collab from LA artists Fiona Grey and kate the dreamer entitled “A World Away (Beer Drunk Glory Days)”.
The verse melody has a gorgeous, gossamer quality that builds slowly and beautifully to a cathartic conclusion. The song has a dreamlike connection to Fiona’s previous single “Beer Drunk Glory Days” – and it’s a showcase for two of the best singers in the world today. No offense to Gracie Abrams or Billie Eilish, but these vocals are in a league of their own.
“‘A World Away’ was written as an alternate version of my song ‘Beer Drunk Glory Days’,” says Grey. “The song honors the intimacy of female friendships and the ways the people you hold closest to you can help you through heartbreak. I love how the alternate version has taken a life of its own as a complete reimagining. Writing it was really cathartic.”
I’m not a voting member of the Recording Academy, but if I were, “A World Away” would get my Grammy vote for Song of the Year.
