Fairhazel’s “Honeybee” is like a jolt of caffeine

Who needs coffee when you can wake up to the energy of Fairhazel’s new single “Honeybee”? You can see why Fairhazel (aka Hugh Macdonald) is selling out shows at L.A. hotspots like Gold Diggers and The Silverlake Lounge.

Fairhazel was born in Brighton, UK but raised in London, Cape Town and Paris. The new single compares favorably to the best melodic rock of all time. “Honeybee” sounds like Harry Nilsson and The Hollies covering a Paul Simon song. Cascading synths also add a nice touch.

The artist says,“‘Honeybee’ is an exploration of how modern production and classic songwriting meet, and the contrast between acoustic instruments and drum sampling. The song is centered around lyrical experimentation. It was honestly written in a similar way to Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’, where I wrote over 30 verses and blindly threw together the ones that ultimately felt the best.”

Fairhazel is quite the auteur, with studios in both LA and London where he handles everything, including production, mixing and mastering. Even though he’s only 25, Fairhazel has already lived on three continents and has garnered international praise for his first two albums. The third will arrive later this year.

We’ve already lost Nilsson – and Paul Simon is now 81. The torch will soon be passed to melody-meisters like Fairhazel, and he’s eager to carry on the tradition.
