Despite what you may have to say about Willis Earl Beal’s debut LP, Acousmatic Sorcery, there’s pretty much no denying the immediacy of his live show. The lo-fi muck is stripped away and Beal bares his soulful voice at the forefront of each track.
The same approach is taken on Principles of A Protagonist, a new EP that Beal dropped today via BitTorrent. Beal’s taken a few of the standouts from his LP and largely excised the outsider music aesthetic, turning these downtrodden Daniel Johnston-y tracks into full-blown scotch-soaked bummer rock.
These tracks are apparently meant to be the soundtrack for an upcoming short film, check the recycled tracklist below and download it here.
