Destroyer shares details of new album, offers chaperone for midnight wanderings on “Bologna”

Dan Bejar has announced the release of his latest album under the Destroyer mantle, Dan’s Boogie, which comes on the heels of 2022’s Labyrinthitis. Lead single “Bologna” features Fiver singer Simone Schmidt and is a dreamy companion for late night walks and bouts of self-deprecation. Slinky guitar lines crouch and wander through a midnight cacophony of harmonizing voices and ascendant synths while the beat keeps time with our footsteps.

I haven’t written many songs like ‘Bologna,’” Bejar says. “I struggled singing the first and third verses, the most important parts of the song. They needed gravity and grit. The threat of disappearing needed to be real. So I called Simone.

A video directed by David Galloway has also been released with the track, a carousel of curious mundanity: VHS-quality clips of restaurant drive-thrus, cheap sunglasses, firefighters beating back flames, drab cityscapes, frozen peas, and a car sinking beneath some darkened pool of water.
