Debbie Sings enjoys nihilism on the trippy “Wish Upon A Star”

Debbie Sings is the moniker of Danish pop producer Sophia Hage. Her new single “Wish Upon A Star” packs a powerful sonic punch that blends pop and country vibes reminiscent of 80s group The Jonzun Crew. Despite its dour lyrics, the track feels like peyote kicking in on the set of Kevin Costner’s western epic Yellowstone.

Says the artist, “‘Wish Upon A Star’ is a song about not having any dreams you wish to come true when you look to the stars (or see a shooting star). To feel hopeless, sort of depressed. This can inspire a ‘fuck it’ feeling – lemme spend all my money and enjoy life as long as it lasts! For this reason, the song plays with clichés (City of Angels, the Fountain of Youth, ride into the sunset) in a semi-ironic, desperate and sad way.”

Debbie Sings has already made a splash at European festivals, including Denmark’s Roskilde Festival where she performed with fellow Dane JADA. If you’re looking for something musically fresh, it doesn’t get any fresher than this kinetic track.
