If you happen to be a subscriber to the Dirty Projectors newsletter, you got a surprise this afternoon. Among announcements concerning its shift to Substack and its bearing of a new name (Well-Tempered Zealot), David Longstreth spoke further of the future of the newsletter and of his recent involvement in a David Berman (Silver Jews, Purple Mountains) tribute show organized by the creators of the Jokerman podcast. Held on Jan 4 at 2220 Arts + Archives in Los Angeles in celebration of what would have been Berman’s 58th birthday, the concert featured other contributors such as musician like Britta Phillips, writer Anahid Nersessian, and author John Tottenham.
He writes: “i played a short set of three favorite DCB numbers — guard my bed [“Pet Politics”], black and brown blues, and (need to) random rules. next morning i tumbled out of bed straight into a couple microphones so i could record ‘em.. so please enjoy this, my belated DCB birthday covers EP, for streaming or free download.”
